My Journey about Brain foods
In 2024, I’ve chosen to explore brain foods that can positively impact overall cognitive function. My interest in this topic is deeply personal; however, I want to share the benefits I have experienced. After I had an accident in the U.S. military, I was suffering from a traumatic brain injury (TBI). I dealt with memory problems, poor focus, and migraines. While trying alternative solutions to manage these symptoms, changing my diet made a noticeable difference. Brain-friendly foods in my meals helped me regain focus, improve memory, and even reduce headaches. Brain foods are a vital part of my daily routine, and I want to share the benefits I’ve experienced with others, especially students looking to optimize their mental performance.
Throughout this course, I plan to collect photos from both Joshua and Christopher during interviews, and I will take recordings for the last meal prep using the Brain Foods demonstration video. I’ve already interviewed Joshua Pitney, the president of Neurodiversity, to talk about how nutrition affects the brain and the relationship between the benefits of certain foods. Also, I will have a meeting in person with Christopher Chitty, a chef at Waves Café, to hear his thoughts on meals that could help students perform better academically and improve their well-being. We may even develop ideas to introduce more brain-boosting food options for students.
For the three projects, I’m thinking of
- I am writing a blog post based on my interview with Joshua Pitney. The post will focus on the science behind brain foods and include a picture showing lots of brain foods.
- I am collaborating with Chef Chitty to develop a menu incorporating brain foods for the student body. I will include the audio of the interviews and a picture of Chef Chitty.
- I will record a video showing how I prepare and enjoy brain foods, encouraging others.
By the end of this semester, my goal is to learn more about brain foods and inspire others to try and make small dietary changes that can benefit our mental performance and overall well-being.
